In community album: 2009 Pillow Cakes Contest
This is my first pillow cake. I had bought the little crown at Hobby Lobby a few weeks prior because I just knew I would be using it somehow. I have since learned how to do one in sugarpaste so the next one I make will be all edible. I started with fondant in blue and purple and then painted on blue food coloring and added gold dust and mauve luster (which actually looks more blue than mauve). I used a cutter for the designs on the top pillow and just quilted the bottom one and added sugarpaste buttons.

So beautiful! How did you get the quilted look on the bottom? And did you make the tuffeted marks around the button? If so how! Thanks

Thank you Nicole, I used an embossing wheel to make the quilting lines and then highlighted with gold lustre. The tufted markes were made with another tool called a serrated-taper cone modeling tool for sugarpaste.
