It is a double layer 10" round cake; iced in buttercream. then you just stand your kit kats up all the way around it. i tied the ribbon just to be sure the kit kats stayed in place. this left me just a small space between the top of the cake and the top of the kit kats so i poured the m&m's on top, but didn't have to use tons of them. i imagine it wouldn't be hard to cut because I cut my kit kats into two's instead of the four's they come in, so you could just cut where there are spaces.
