Nightmare!!!

Nightmare!!! on Cake Central

This is a cake that was baked by the brides mother but she asked me to decorate it. She made extra 2-layer sheet cakes that she wanted me to ice and trim. The buttercream she gave me was really unstable. It started to slide off the sides of the other cakes. It started to fall on this cake too but I just prayed that it would at least stay on till I got paid and left. This whole experience was a major nightmare!

It may have been a nightmare to make...but it looks like a masterpiece. I think you did an excellent job! :D

Nice outcome, but I hope you learn from this to never do it again...You came out looking good out of this one, but never know how bad the next one will make you look...No one will know that you only "dressed" up the cake...Like you said, the stability in the icing wasn't the best, and who knows what the cake tasted like. It could hurt your reputation. IMHO

Yeah, I know. Unfortunately she has 2 daughters and already asked me to do the other's cake too. I don't want to after this horrible experience.

I'd tell her up front when it comes time to discuss the next cake that you will not use her icing. Use this one as an example if you have to, but I don't even use "family" cake recipes when someone asks. Godiva's right... you don't want it to hurt your rep if people see the cake falling apart and ask who did it.... The mother of the bride will certainly not say she had anything to do with it... nice save on this one though. It came out nice
