That platter was hand made by my Grandmother more than 50 years ago. It has a frosted design in the center of it.

This cake is ab-so-lutely beautiful!! I am so impressed. I am saving this pic in my album for future reference. You can be so proud of your work.

Believe it or not the ribbon is just attached to the buttercream icing. I piped an extra spot of icing on each end to attach to the cake and it stayed. It helps having the seam in the back as well but it didn't come apart at all!

I FORGOT TO MENTION, THIS WAS MY FIRST WEDDING CAKE! I HAVE PICTURES OF THE WHOLE PROCESS. WANTED TO DOCUMENT MY FIRST. IS THAT WEIRD?

on

Yep! Believe it or not, I didn't do a trial run! I trusted the person who showed me the technique and it worked. I had my husband cut the angled portion of the feet on the plate off.

It is a metal platter that my Grandmother made over 50 years ago. You can't see it in this picture but there is a frosted floral design on it! Thank you!

This was a cake for 250 people! There was cake left over including the top tier! My sister-in-law wanted a big cake!

on

Thank you so much! The tier sizes are 14", 10", 8", and 6"! These are the same size tiers I used for my Australian string work cake! I just love the way the sizes look together.

Gosh, I can't even think of a word to describe this cake. It is PERFECT! The way that you made it look like a lace doille draping over the 2 tiers is amazing! I am doing the wedding cake for my sil in November. I have looked at TONS of cakes to get ideas, but this one is IT! Gosh, I bet that bride cried when she saw that - I know I would!

on

Your cornelli looks just like a doily. Amazing! Like Phat, I'm wondering how you kept the ribbon from absorbing grease. I tried a ribbon one time and even put waxed paper behind it, but it still soaked up grease from teh edges and within an hour was entirely soaked.

on

wow, wow, very impressive!! How did you attach your flowers on top? I will be doing my first wedding cake with fresh flowers on top also.

on

Wow! This is a beautiful cake. I am doing my first and was thinking of using ribbon on it also. I never gave any thought to the ribbon getting greasy. Any tips on what kind of ribbon I should use or how to prevent the grease from soaking through?
