How can I make an icing like this?

Anjovis - I made my normal buttercream recipe which is equal quantities of butter & confectioners sugar bur didn't add any water like I normally do. This made a nice stiff icing which let me make the hive

Very cute!! This is probably a silly question but how did you paint the bees? I have tried it with straight food coloring and it NEVER dried. Please help.

I love these and they are some of the nicest I have seen. I am making them next week for a playdate my daughter has with some of her friends :)
