In album: loopy
An open request this time so I got to try making buttons and a loopy bow. The bow was sparse on top when I finished and I didn't have any filler so I added a few more buttons to cover up the glue. Cake is WASC (a favorite of all my friends). Plain buttercream icing and fondant details. Sides of cake have baby feet and the word "baby." I am a critique subgroup member. All comments and suggestions (especially about the buttons and the bow) are welcome!

CSM: This is an adorable cake and I think the bow looks like a pro! The colors are beautiful, the buttons are really cute, the piping is perfect and your BC is nice and smooth. Excellent job!

Love Love Love the buttons, great idea filling in the bow with them!

CSM: The icing looks nice and smooth and I really like the writing. I don't see anything at all wrong with your buttons, they look really nice to me. About the bow, I like them to be more loopy on top as well as on the sides. I always tend to overmake loops so I have extras in case of breakage or empty spots. I do think maybe a more colorful icing would have been nice, maybe a pale yellow or green? Or in lieu of that, maybe a colored board. I just feel it's maybe a little too much white. ;-D

To finish, I think it's a very nice cake and she should be very pleased with it. Sorry I ran on and ended up running out of room!

Thanks for the notes...the board actually has blue dots on it, but it's hard to see that in the sunny picture. The white isn't so overpowering in person.

CSM: I think it looks great!! Love how smooth you got your buttercream!!! If we were to get picky about the bow, I'd say spread the colors out a little more, they're kinda grouped together... and I also like more full bows, but this is still real cute with the buttons! Buttons look awesome!! :)

CSM: I think your buttons are fabulous! I wouldn't change them at all. I agree that the bow loops should be a little more wide. Other than that- it's perfect! great work!

CSM: I like the buttons and your colors. The bow seems to big for the cake for me, but otherwise its a very cute design

CSM: This is so cute! I love the colors! To me the buttons are fine and such a cute idea. My suggestions would be that white is seems a little stark and I would have done a pale yellow background and same with the cakeboard except maybe a lighter shade of yellow. I also think the bow needs more loops usually there are some at the top as well.

Oh one other thing I think a pastell background for photographing would have been really cute for this cake and would have showcased it more.

CSM: I think your buttons are fantastic! I love the colours and I think the feet look really cute! I think a blue board or one of the other colours from your bow would have been a nice touch! Great Job!

CSM: Love the bow, the colors, and the buttons. They look great! I would have maybe done the board in a pastel but as you said, it had little blue dots which do not photograph well.

CSM: Your buttons are great! I don't know any other way of doing them - there must be a mold! I think the bow is a little too large for this cake. Or the loops are too long? But I love how the bow matches the buttons!

CSM: very cute cake. Great colors. The bow is very good but the loops could be thinner with more on top too. Good job on the buttons. I know it's hard to keep the holes towards the middle, but if you're doing a 2-hole button, I think that would look better. But, no worries, this is a very adorable cake!

CSM: Great colors! Your piping is awesome and your icing is nice and smooth. I see nothing wrong with your buttons. They look like buttons. The bow is a bit big for the cake and should have more loops on the top, but maybe you did it that way b/c you incorporated the buttons on top of the bow???? I would have used a thicker board and dressed it to match one of the colored buttons. I think it would have made your white cake "pop" more.
