I used an upside down cupcake for the ladybug. Single layer 10-inch round cake frosted with Creme Bouquet Buttercream and a gel pen for writing. The ladybug was used for the birthday girl's smash cake. I was worried the cake looked too plain, but with the partyware being so bright and busy, I think it balanced out nicely.
