In album: bow
This was my first cake with a loopy bow. Though made 4 days ahead, the loops refused to dry! Luckily, no one at the shower knew what it was supposed to look like and they loved it. (Yay!) Interestingly, I salvaged the bow after the shower and took it home and took it apart and set it aside to see how long the loops would take to really dry. Two weeks later when I threw them away, they were still limp and droopy. I've since learned that Pettinice gumpaste by itself never dries. Who would've thought?!

This cake is really good! I had troubles with bows I did on a wedding cake. Could you share the secret of keeping them nice and stiff the way they should be? Thanks :D

Did you use a bead mold for the bottom boarder? I bought one, I can't get it to work. The fondant sticks in it and won't come out. Great cake!!

Thanks for the kind words. Peggy, I sent you a PM. Stylishbite, I used a CK products bead mold. If you put a good coat of pearl dust or luster dust in the mold before you put in the fondant or gumpaste, it helps it come out. If you add a little powdered sugar to your fondant, so it is firmer, that will also help. I heard you can freeze the mold for a couple of minutes, before removing the beads, but haven't tried that.

Itsacake....I recently made a loopy bow in my Wilton 3 class. It was fondant and we added a litte hardening powder of some sort to the fondant before rolling it out. The bow was nice and stiff and dried within hours. Check a Wilton supplier for whatever it was! It came in my student kit. I think your cake is cute.

Must be the gumpaste..that's what came in my kit. my instructor didn't use it though

Tylose powder is probably what was added. I used it for the first time to make a person figure & it worked great. I had colored maybe 1/4 of a batch of MMF to a skin tone and added maybe less than 1/4 tsp. I was happy with it.
