What are the photos printed on?

love this idea what a great cake!

Beautiful! I've seen one like this before and want to do one for my parent's 30th in 2 years. Could you please tell me are the fondant sheets the same as edible images? I'm a newbie :P

I printed the photos with an edible ink printer on fondant sheets. The cake is covered with fondant and I just glue the photos with water around it.
