My best friend decided that she just HAD to have a waterfall with REAL WATER on her cake. I said no at first of course, but after a professional cake decorator told me it was impossible I was committed to do it! lol. The cake was passion fruit/guava/papaya with pineapple filling and coconut BC, hence the tropical decorations.

how in the world did you do that??? 8O
soygurl 9/28/05 at 11:02am
lol, good question! I used a small filter/pump from a pet store (for fish) attached a tube that went up the middle of the cake. The pump was in the big base thing with circulating water. Used cut flower formers from wilton on the sides to hold water, but had to line those with paper towl to keep the water from splashing.

That is SO cool! I've never seen that before!! I would have said "NO!" right away too...but you had the nerve to try...and it's fantastic!!

Thanks everyone! what I really want to do is make another one now that I know some of the problems to avoid. I would really like to figure out some alternative to the white plastic flower formers, but so far haven't thought of anything. If any of you have any ideas please let me know! :P

This idea is unbelivable! You did a really good job!

PVC piping?
soygurl 10/26/05 at 10:54pm
I think i will use PVC piping for some of the internal parts next time, but it wouldn't look anydifferent than the flower formers for the waterfall part.

Cute! What about pieces of bamboo rods instead of the flower formers. If you could find a large one and split it into the appropraite sizes it would and so much character. I am truly inspired!

That is a WONDERFULL idea!!! Thank you SO much, I will probably do that, at least depending on the theme.
cakelady7 1/3/06 at 11:54am
That is too cool!!! I would have wanted to do it even more after being told it was impossible! You could probably make things for the water out of polymer clay. Then you can make them to match any theme.
soygurl 1/3/06 at 1:22pm
Clay! That's a great idea! The only thing I would worry about is it being safe to touch food... I suppose I could just put plastic under it, but do you know anything about this?
KHalstead 3/13/06 at 9:05am
the polymer clay is completely non toxic after the baking process, people make wedding cake toppers out of it all the time

That's soooo cool! I like the bamboo idea. What about tinting the water next tme? To match the theme? Ack. I just had an idea. Halloween. Then you could tint it red and yeah.....LOL
