Carousel Cake
This was my entry for the Mid Atlantic Cake Show. This was my first realy cake competition. The bottom and top are 12x2 rounds and the middle are four 6" hexagons. THere is a 1 1/2 dowel thru the middle that is screwed into the bottom and top board for support. For the horses I made a mod and then molded them with gumpaste. Each horse was decorated differently. The majority of the pieces on the cake were gumpaste or fondant. The pics on the bottom cake were hand painted. TFL

It's awesome! It was even better in person!! Great job on this. I loved it at the time so it's exciting to know it was from a CC member!! :D
Awesome detail. Love your animal faces.
THank you all for the kind comments. I couldnt even tell you how many hours I spent, it was a lot. I should have kept track but I was too into my work to think about that. It didnt win, the competition was tough. But on the way out Collette and Norman Davis both stopped me to highly compliment it and that was all the validation I needed. Almost better than a ribbon.
Absolutely gorgeous! Sorry you didn't win, but the comments from N. Davis and C. Peters must have been truly thrilling, especially unsolicited and all! Congrats; that's a win on its own! Fantastic cake!
