Pink And Orange Star Cake

Pink And Orange Star Cake on Cake Central

WASC with crusting BC requested by the whole staff at my school. This is a thank you cake for the support everyone has given 2 of us this year as we worked through a national certification process. Thanks to Cakery for all the great borders--inspiration to try bolder designs on my cakes...I just need a steadier hand. Thanks also to tiptop57 for her support with all my questions as I try new techniques. The board is a bit small tonight. I am a Critique Subgroup Member--all comments welcome!

Critique Subgroup Member: What a cheerful cake! I like the colors and your buttercream is just perfect -- a difficult thing for me for sure. I agree that the bottom border color should have been reversed. Cake looks great on the board and it's an overall very attractive cake. Congrats on trying new things.

Critique subgroup member: I like it. Your buttercream looks great. Maybe just a little bulging on the edge there and what looks like some cake showing on the corners. Yeah, definately put the orange on the bottom of the bottom border and the pink on top. The dominant color should be on the bottom so as to not completely make the lighter color disappear. I love paper you used. You matched the colors perfectly.

Critique subgroup member: Nice job on this cake. Odd shapes are very hard to get clean lines. Your BC is very smooth and I like the top border. I agree the bottom border kind of blends into the board, but you matched the pink perfectly!

critique subgroup member: What a cute cake. I like the board and think those same kind of flowers would look very cute on this cake. I like your swirls too though. I like the colors. The only thing I would have done differently is made the writing straight and not diagonal. It is just more visually appealing to me that way. Overall, very nice and very appreciated I'm sure.

critique subgroup member: Great Cake! I really like this color combo, nice and bright and cheerful! Great borders! My only fear is that with the cake board being so thin, the weight of the cake will bow it and your crusting BC will crack. (I see you had no choice though)

Critique subgroup member: Whoa Nellie! Looks way retro 60's to me. :D Oh dear, never cared for that era, too many colors, too many weird psychedelic flashbacks. Gosh I even think I had a shirt like the cake plate. The staff will love it. It is very upbeat and fun. Your buttercream is very smooth!!!! I would try working onyour piping yet. For instance the top border got a bit sloppy with zigzag but overall your designs are really coming along and your cake is adorable.

Critique group member: Cute! I love the color combo! Other than the ruff spot on the corner, it looks fine to me athough I think you need to step it up a notch!

Critique Subgroup Member: Next time try stacking two boards for better support. With the cake shape and design, the board size is just fine. I like the colors and theme on this one. Maybe watch your corners a bit. I really do like this one. Nice job!
