Astronaut With Moon Cake And Cookies

Astronaut With Moon Cake And Cookies on Cake Central

Here it is! The moon is equivalent to a 12in chocolate cake, covered in chocopan and brushed dry with moonstone silver luster dust. The astronaut is styrofoam covered in gumpaste. The cookies were decorated with fondant and royal icing. Silver dragees play "stars" on the fondant covered board. It was SOO much fun!

OMG that is too cool! Now I totally see moon/crater cookies. I couldn't see the "craters" in your other pic. No question about it now. Awesome!

critique subgroup member: It turned out fabulous. I really love the texture your moon has. The dragees add a lot to the board. There are a few places where the silver seems a little thin and the underneath part shows, but maybe you were going for that kind of look as the surface of the moon is random. The cookies turned out great and look great around the cake. The astronaut has many cool details and is well done. I am sure the cake was ahit.

critique subgroup member: what an awesome idea for a cake!! I love the moon and your astronaut is perfect- the detail is just amazing. From a critique standpoint, there are parts that need to have been gone over a little more for a more even silver coat and your 'dots' around the cake should be uniform. great touch for the stars- it's a really cool design

Critique subgroup member: Great theme for the subject matter! I personally don't care to eat grey cake, but that is my issue. I think the little astronaut is too big for the cake also. Did ya have a hard time keeping him standing? The handwritten sign is a nice touch, but you have to work on your handwriting with placements, kerning and line spacing, thickness of your fonts etc. Your cookies are fantasti. Love the star effect and overall this is A+ and I bet it went over well.

Critique Subgroup Member: Very cool! You did a marvelous job on the moon and the astronaut. The cookies are also cute. I would have used an edible image for the sign.

Critique Group Member: This is terrific! Personally, I don't think the astronaut is too big - any smaller and he would be lost and clearly you wouldn't do him to scale - after all, as you mention the cake is about the suit. The suit is very detailed and well done - excellent work overall. Sorry - no critiques from me!

Critique Subgroup member: Wow - your modelling is great! He does seem a little big, but I understand why you did him like that. I love the dragees on the black background! Terrific!!

Critique Subgroup Member. I love the board...great job. I might have dusted the astronaut's facemask with a shiny dust to make it look reflective. Your cookies are great.

Critique Subgroup Member: This is fantastic! I love the craters in the moon and no your astronaut is not to big (especially as it is the focal point). The details you put on your astronaut are very realistic! I agree with ac2steach about maybe making the facemask shiny! Great Job! :D

Critique Group Member: Very, very nice! I love the Astronaut, he has great detail! I love non-standard cake designs and this is fabulous!

critique subgroup member: Great fondant work! The astronaut is a bit out of proportion to the cake, but you have already explained that. The cookies are a great addition and the cake board is fantastic!

critique group member: okay, tryna find something to critique.....okay, I can't, this is awesome!! Can you make me one??
