Peach Swirls

Peach Swirls on Cake Central

Vanilla cake with vanilla SMBC -- 10, 8, 6" -- buttercream icing, roses, and tiny leaves -- satin ribbon. Critic Subgroup Members: I think my swirls are too large (#5 tip) and the ribbon too narrow, but otherwise a pretty design (found by the bride in a magazine). thanks so much for your comments!

Critique Subgroup Member: It's very, very lovely. Your roses are nice, as is the snail trail border and the color. The swirls are large, but not unattractive to me. It looks perfect on that cake plate. I know lots of people like the ribbon, but I don't, but it still is attractive and if that's what the bride wants, that's what they get. The mound of roses on the top is in perfect proportion.

Critique Subgroup Member: This is a very nice cake. I like the roses, they're perfect I wish mine came out like that! You're right on the swirls, maybe a #2 tip. You also have the same problem with them I do, I tend to get the tip out of position and make the lines look a little flat in spots. Your dots are a good size and placed great, try letting them sit for a minute and flattening the "points" with your finger. The borders look a little rushed but are of a good size and placement.

Critique Subgroup Member: continued, The ribbon looks fine to me. It doesn't compete with the rest of the cake elements. Overall I like this one! You did a nice job!!!

Critique subgroup member: Perfect presentation! Top roses are a lovely touch. Nice random scroll placement. Little flat on the scrolls and maybe not a number 2 as Daveilg suggested because I think that maybe too small, maybe a three? Ribbon seems fine, but got to wonder how long this cake took. Seems sort of rushed through.......you know fast swirls, fast roses, fast borders......but overall very pretty.

Critique Subgroup Member: not so great? I think it's awesome! We all have our little things to improve upon but I think you are being too hard on yourself. Your scroll work is a little rushed, but not so much that it looks bad. You did a fabulous job! :)

Critique Subgroup Member: I like this design, i do think the ribbon could be a little wider and the scrolls thinner. By the angle of the picture it looks as though the middle tier is not quite level near the roses, but it could be the photo. Color is nice and your roses are very pretty!

Critique group member: Very pretty design! The only things I would suggest are using a smaller tip in the swirls so the look more delicate and maybe doing leaves in the same color as the rose so they cover the base.

An absolutely beautiful cake. I think the swirls would definitely look a little more delicate with a smaller tip having piped them, but they're not bad and the ribbon is fine (again the thinner swirls would make the ribbon look more balanced). Gorgeous roses and color!

it's wonderful - I think i saw that design on a book... can't rememrate it!me of it- but it took them a week to decorate it in the book! I think it's lovely!

critique subgroup member: I like this design very much. I have to agree with you and the others, a smaller tip for a more delicate look, but you did disperse them wonderfully, nice and evenly spaced and sized. I am missing the border on the top tier, seems out of place to me since the 10" and 8" have them. The only other thing that bothers me, is the way the ribbon cuts off the swirls on the 10" tier. overall a very beautiful cake!

This is a very pretty cake! Love the peachy color and your roses look good. I think the ribbon size looks good but it shouldn't cut into your scrolls. The only suggestions I would make is to use a smaller tip for the scrool work and take yout time. For the little spikes on dots I like to use a mini marshmallow to pat them down. It's sometimes easier than using my finger as it keeps my nails away from the icing.

critique subgroup member: I think this is very pretty. The color is so subtle and I love your roses. I agree that the swirls might be a bit too large, but they still look nice on this cake. I don't mind the ribbon, but for some reason I do not like thie color of this one with your icing color, but I'm sure it's what the bride wanted. All in all, this is a very very nice cake and I would have been proud to have it as my wedding cake. :)

Thanks, everyone, for the nice comments! I have never piped swirls or a "snail" border before (I've done only 4 bc cakes in all because I love fondant) so they took me quite awhile -- about an hour. The ribbon cuts into some decoration because I didn't measure and leave the bottom bare -- I had to scrape off my scrolls/swirls that went too low!!

critique group member: Beautiful!! This reminds me of another cake in the galleries that's in my favs!! I'm gonna agree with you on the swirls and ribbon. Overall, this is beautiful!!

critique group member: I think you said it...maybe should have used a smaller tip for your scrolls...but they look very nice. I love the roses! There are those roses on the sides that maybe could've had some leaves added on the side to hide the mound of frosting. I think the color is very nice and you should be proud! :D very pretty!

Critique subgroup member: It's super pretty overall. Great design and presentation. It does look a little rushed, but it's pretty. I agree that the swirls are too big. More delicate would have been nice. The ribbon is good. Also, don't know if it's just the pic or not, but the swirl icing looks a little cracked (too thick maybe?) and there are some smoosh marks, but overall, I really like your cake!

Very nice job, I agree that your swirls are a little too big, but your roses are very defined, wished my roses looked liked that. Overall, I think you did a great job!!! :D
