2Nd Wedding Cake
I was given a picture off of the modern Bride website and asked if I could do it. I thought that it looked simple but elegant so I took the job. Boy was I wrong. It took me weeks to figure out how to stamp the letterson it, and it was my 1st attempt with fondant, and stacked construction. The top was their monogrammed initials, the 2nd said Love and laughter, the 3rd said Happily ever after. Oh, and the bow, ended up not being edible, that was a disaster, but I only charged $150. I almost went in the hole.
Looks very pretty, how did you do the letters? Very nice job for the first time.
Well......how did you stamp the letters on it? The colors are beautiful, and so is the cake.
You did a great job!!
Very nice :) How do you stamp I have never herd of that berfore??
Turned out nice!
Very nice for first time using fondant and stacked construction!
Thanks for the support. I bought the stamps at a scrapbooking store, they were capital on one side and small script on the other. I used wilton brush on icing blue and purple to get the periwinkle, brushed it on my stamps, and stamped them on one at a time, hoping they were joining the one beside it. I started in the middle of the phrase so that I was sure that was the center of the cake. Thanks for the supportive comments.
This could only be done to fondant right ???
first time with fondant...wow!! You should be proud!! love the lettering...and the color... great job
OK, time to fess up, the fondant credit goes to my hubby. Don't tell his friends on the construction site. He finished drywall, so he's got the art of smoothing down pat. To answer the question about will this only work on fondant, I don't know I haven't tried it on buttercream, it's possible it would run, if you try it I'd love to know and see pics. I've thought of it, but haven't tried it.
Thanks maybe we should do a forum on this to see what others think ??
wow, I love the look of that cake. The letters are great! They look like you rolled them into the fondant. Very nice job!
Thanks, I just stamped them on and then went over them in the lighter places with a brush.
I know this cake...it was from Carlos Bakery...You did a great job!
Then for curiosity sake, do you know where the embossed stamps that they used came from? And thanks for the kind comment.
This is a lovely cake, can't believe it's your first time using fondant!
Actually, the credit goes to my hubby. But thanks for the comment.
Thanks again, you all are going to give me the big head. Thanks for the encouragement! Godiva, the site said that it was stampworx2000, but I had no luck searching for those, but The ones that I used worked fairly well, it just doesn't have the embossed look to it.
Love the cake, forgive me I take things too literally, you said you used Wilton brush on blue icing, can you tell me what that is? Thanks so much
the cake is just marvelous....great detail
Love your cake.. what a great idea to write on it like that.. Would be great for any occasion.. thanks for sharing.
I don't remember...I actually e-mailed the company and they never replied. The cake is still up on brides.com and it gives the supplier name...stamps something...let me know if you are successfull at reaching them.
Your cake came out great. I love the lettering on the sides. I found the stamps they used for the cake in the magazine on a website for stampworx2000. You can e-mail them right from this sight to place an order. I posted a thread subject: Stampworx2000, if anyone wants to look at the website. I had trouble posting the link here.
Thank you all for the kind comments.
You buy it in a bottle, then pour it into a tray and dip your sponge in it, or use a paint brush to apply it. It's like a liquid icing, I took my paint brush and put the color on my stamps, then filled in the lighter areas with the tiny brush. A friend freehanded the T initial on the top layer since it was larger than the others.
did the letters dry completely??? or did they remain tacky??? Is it possible to paint anything on a cake with that particular coloring???
They did dry completely, it is just like a liquid paint, but edible, I don't see why you couldn't paint anything else on with this coloring, as we used a paintbrush to fill in areas that didn't stamp well. The top letter got smudged because I refrigerated it and it was fondant, and as most of you probably know, fondant sweats when refrigerated, so I wouldn't suggest that, but when I was delivering it, my husband stuck his finger in the last initial so it smeared some, but the other two cakes writing ...
