Watering Can Cake

Watering Can Cake on Cake Central

I made this for my MIL's 60th birthday. I wanted to do a watering can and when I saw GRAMMASUE's cake I was blown away! Thanks to cloudsmom for tips on how to make the spout. Also big thanks to aine2 for her tutorial on the gumpaste roses. These are my first! I think I need a little more practice and better cutters, but I was pretty happy with how they turned out. The butterflies are chocolate.

The spout is gumpaste wrapped around a dowel. I put a cake board between layers of cake and drove the dowel through the cake board into the base at an angle. It was quite sturdy.

Oh and I forgot to mention that you cant really see in the picture but I used some piping gel on it to look like water around the base and dripping down the sides of the cake and spout. It looked pretty neat!

Absolutely beautiful, I love everything about it right down to the cake board! I agree with 2sdae you are my hero!!!

It's gorgeous! I never would've guessed those were your first roses. I love the colors too...of the can, the butterflies and the roses.

the butterflies and wood flooring are my favorite of the finishing touches. did you use vanilla to paint the wood or brown color? its a very pretty shade which compliments the cake colors well rather than distracting from it. beautiful cake!

Thanks, Melysa. I used vodka to paint it. However, the cake turned out a little more "shabby chic" looking that I planned. So I sort of wish I had left it white.

Don't change a thing - it's PERFECT. Your roses are spectacular. Wonderful cake. Thx for posting and inspiration.

You wrote that you need more practice on your roses......ARE YOU MAD?!?!? This is sooooooo awsome If I were you, I'd be stopping every Tom, Dick and Harry I met on the street to show off the photo of the most fabulous cake ever!

Well this is marvelous. The watering can is great, and the flowers don't look like your first try at all. Good job.

Wow, thanks  ! The can is 3 5 inch cakes (6 inch total height). The handle is gumpaste that I made a couple of days ahead. It just stuck right on with royal icing. I was worried, but it was fine!
