Snakes And Snails And Puppy Dog Tails

Snakes And Snails And Puppy Dog Tails on Cake Central

For a mother-to-be expecting a little boy. This turned out pretty much as I had envisioned, except the green buttercream turned a bit too dark. I wanted it to appear that the critters were playing in a field with tallish grass, hence the buttercream texture. Dogs, flowers and grass spears are gumpaste. I necessarily couldnât have all the figures to scale, so I made the snakes and snails more on the fantasy side. Thanks for looking.

Thank you! I liked them, too, and they were pretty easy. As you can see, I didn't work too much about scale, since the golden retriever is smaller than the Scotty.

critique group member: okay I am so sorry  I do not like that technique for grass. the way you put the knife to the bc and just pull out, I don't think it looks like grass at all. the other thing is that your leaves are the same exact color as your bc and you really can't see them at all. Ok, now for what I DO like..your doggie bottoms are amazing! They are just too perfect and almost look like they are ceramic! your snails are very cute as well but don't match the perfection that your dogs are....

con't: the snails could've been done a little more realistic like the dogs. I think that if you would've smoothed the bc and then added all those blades of grass it would've looked better. I hope this helps!

Critique subgroup member: Ok, 1st the great stuff about this cake -- the dogs are amazing! The snakes and the snails are super cute too. Ok, now for the grass....the grass tip is really needed here. But, honestly, I don't know if that would save it for me. I think if you had created a hedge of some sort (maybe not on a tiered cake???) that the dogs would have made more sense to me. But that's just me. I like the color overall, but do think that there should have been some variations in it. More to foll...

Critique subgroup member: Continued...that said, I think you ought to give a tutorial on how you made those dogs! If you get a chance, I'd love to get some directions from you on those! :)

Critique subgroup member: Your dogs are terrific! So funny! I just think there's too much green - it's hard to see the little details. To me it seems the top tier is missing something - maybe something larger on top like a dog?

critique subgroup member: I just love the idea behind this cake!! I have to agree that the grass look just isn't there, and like you said, the color is a bit dark which for me is unappetizing, but the nice bright colors of the snakes and snails helps. overall, a very adorable cake!!

Oh that is soo cute. Love all the doggie butts! They are so perfect, just love the way you can ID the breeds from their behinds :)

Critique Subgroup member: since everyone else has already made the statements about the grass, I won't got here. I have to say- those are the best doggy butts I have ever seen- very nice sculpting :)

Critioque group member: Wow the dogs look great! Critique wise I think the grass looks odd and the insects need to be more realistic looking they sem out of place with the dogs.

Well..... I think it looks cute just the way it is. I think it is neat that not everyone's grass and stuff looks the same. I know they are trying to help, but I can't help being defensive for ya. I also would love to know your technique for the puppy bottoms. I wanted to do this theme, but never could come up with something. This is cute.
