Wendi Edayny Shower

Wendi Edayny Shower on Cake Central

This is my first cake after a long break to focus on schoolwork. It is for a double shower--a boy and a girl. Thanks to all the people who have done onesie cakes for the inspiration. I tried two colors in the icing bag for the border. Top border has blue on the outside; bottom has pink on the outside. Color of photo was funky due to crazy new lightbulbs in kitchen. I am a Critique Subgroup Member so all constructive comments welcome. Thanks.

critique subgroup member: sweetie, it's adorable! i love the flowers and the color combinations and the little onsie! i think you frosting looks great and i love how you did the two colored border! well done! maybe center the onsie a little more

Critique Subgroup Member: Your colors are so sweet together, the borders look a little rushed and the lines on the onesie could have been better but otherwise it is precious and you did a great job pulling it all together. I have to commend you for the two toned borders, that would have scared me off

critique subgroup member: precious cake! I love the soft pastel colors, but I think the flowers need a few leaves to set them off. Did you write a message in the open area in the middle of the cake? because this area looks bare to me.

critique subgroup member: wow- I really like the two-color border!! Your pastel colors look great. No critiques from me

critique subgroup member: I love that this incorporates both blue and pink so perfectly. I love the flowers and how they are arranged. I am wondering if more of them might have helped fill in the open space in the middle a little. I like the look of the two tone border. It looks a little inconsistent here and there, but an overall neat effect. I like the paper you put on the board. I think it is fun! Nice job.

Critique group member: Nice work - great borders, colors, flower set-up, and your board covering works nicely. Like the onsie draping over the side - would suggest making the onsie a bit bigger and offsetting the laying of it.

Critique subgroup member: Your colors are perfect and your borders are great! I think I would have added centers for all the flowers though. The onsie is a bit off. I always lay things out on the back of the pan to get the layout before messing up the frosting. Here is something I haven't brought up before, but did you use a box cake? The reason I ask is the cake seems short for a double layer try two boxes or 1/2 more your recipe next time to get some height. It sets it off for a more professional look...

Thanks for all the comments, everyone. I used a WASC so it was a box cake, but with additions. I left it at a single recipe because other large desserts were served also. I thought the cake was a bit skinny, too, but with the amount of food there, people were happy for the shorter cake. Thanks.

Crique group memeber: Very cute! I agree that the onesie should have been more centered and the centers for the flowers would have been a nice touch.

Critique Subgroup Member - LOVE the board and the colors! I agree that putting different colored centers in the flowers would have set them off even more. Overall, very cute cake!
