Got inspiration from folks on here, especially pbertone1005. This was my first time trying basketweave, ruffles, squiggles, fondant, and gumpaste... and really my third cake I've decorated yet. It was a labor of love and I'm happy with how it turned out. It was for my sister-in-law's baby shower (unknown gender).. everything was BC except blanket, blocks (fondant), and bear (gumpaste). I used yellow cake with BC and raspberry jam filling. Used 10.5x14 pan for bottom layers (2) and one 10in round for hood.

Used a package of gumpaste powder from local cake supply shop, and followed the directions. It was hard to make into a ball without adding extra water, but after that it was like using playdough. Took a while to get "brown" incorporated (hards sore from all that piping!). I rolled a plump ball for the body, smaller one for the head, and then rolled out the arms and legs and shaped as shown. The yellow spots were leftover fondant except the buttons- continued...

I used some yellow buttercream (had it out already) for the buttons and realized it looked just as good and stuck to the gumpaste easier. The gumpaste stuck to itself pretty well but don't add too much extra moisture when mixing, because otherwise your bear will droop down/flatten as it sits.. mine did a little I think. I had it sit out overnight and you can see it was starting to dry out but it still looked OK. Thank you for the nice comment!
