In community album: Baby Shower
this was my first baby shower cake and it was so fun. it was for a friend who was bringing it to a shower at her school. i was so nervous because it was for 50 people i didn't know. my fondant wasn't real smooth but otherwise i think it turned out okay. also my characters need more work. thanks to so many people who's ideas i found on here. especially yourstrulytx who did a cake from the same napkins and gave me some pointers =)

thanks for looking. would love some advise since i'm new to cake deco

Your bow and spirals look great. The design looks good with the napkins.

CSM: very nice design. I see some bulging in your fondant on the bottom tier. For your booties, try letting them dry with a paper towel inside for a more rounded front. Still I love the colors and the design

csm: I like the color scheme and it matches the napkins nicely. I like the cake board, the bow and the bear&booties on top. I do see some fondant issues, but overall a very nice cake.

CSM: I like the color combination! I have to agree on the bumpy fondant. Your teddy bears are very cute, but the top one seems to blend in with the overall fondant, maybe he could have been sitting on a little blue baby blanket? your bows are very nice, but I think a couple of the spirals from the bottom of the bow would have evened out the spirals, for me they appear to be like flames jumping from the bow??? Also great job on the cake board!

CSM: I agree about the fondant, also, on the ribbons around the cake, I would've liked to have seen them get pinched in where the bows are, otherwise it looks like the bow is just sitting on top of the ribbon. Love the board!

CSM: Excellent design and color composition. Love how you incorporated the cake board. Looks like your bottom fondant issues could be from the cake layers buldging (?). I think the twirls on the top would like nicer if they were softer and not sticking straight up. You did a great job designing and executing this - I'm sure you are proud of it!! :)

CSM: I think you did a great job! I love the board! I think you did an awesome job matching the design and colours to the napkins and other than the fondant issues on the bottom tier I think it looks great! :D

CSM: WELCOME!!!!! This is a cute design! I think your bears are adorable. Your bows are very pretty as well. With a bit more practice on your fondant work you will have great success.

CSM: Too cute! I love the design and colors! I see some bulges in the fondant and I also would have centered the bows.

CSM: Love your color scheme. They look great with the napkins. With practice, I'm sure you'll work out your fondant issues. You did a great job matching up the corner lines on the top of the tier. I love your bears, but think they would "pop" more if they were a lighter brown. I agree the spirals look like shooting flames from the bow, maybe if they were shorter it would look better. Overall, nice job!

CSM: Blue & brown are one of my favorite color combos! You did a great job matching the napkins. I agree about the flaws in the fondant. Your board with the dots is nice, in future cover the side with ribbon, the fondant has a tendency to crack off.

CSM newbie here: I'd keel over if I did a 50+people cake! Overall, this looks like you really worked hard on it! Good job for you! Critique: about what all said on bumpy fondant. Put the bear on top on a blue/white blankie, make him stand out. Cake looks a bit off center. Try leveling & then use a ruler, it helps. Try blue ribbon on board edge, will make the board standout. Can see the layers on bottom. Practice w/icing/fondant helps. I would be thrilled to receive this cake. :)
