Medieval Castle
My first castle cake - done for a medieval theme party! It was huge - served 120! Bottom is a cake dummy covered in fondant stones adhered with royal icing. Top is enhanced white cake w/ white ganache filling; towers are dark chocolate w/ chocolate ganache filling. Top and towers covered in gray tinted buttercream. Drawbridge, pavers, windows, and battlements are fondant. Water was done with piping gel. Royal icing grass surrounds the moat.
The drawbridge chain was my husband's contribution. He makes jewelry as a hobby. Each chain is made of jump rings linked together with 1/2 in. pins on each end to secure it. To be extra cautious, I added a tiny bead of royal icing as the "glue" to hold it in place.
I forgot to mention that there is a thin layer of white royal icing under the piping gel to allow the "water" to be seen against the black board.
You did great. It is a very action-packed cake!
What a great job, it looks so good.
Thanks so much for the compliments! The party had a medieval knights and dragons theme. I added the figures for effect.
I absolutely love this cake! Beautiful job!
What is the chain on the drawbridge made of? This is going straight into my favorites!
