This is a birthday cake for a lady turning 80. This was my first at this type. She wanted tints and shades of purple. Thanks to all my CC friends for their inspiration.
This is fabulous and just the inspiration I wanted for a 70th Birthday cake I've been asked to make. May I ask how you iced the cutaway portions so neatly? Did you make the cut out and then cover the whole, then cover the 'inside part' of the cut out? I see you have a neat bead of icing along this edge and was wondering if this was covering the join? My compliments though. It is stunning! :D
Annethered, thank you for the nice words. I cut the slice out of my cake prior to putting on the fondant. I covered the top and sides of the cake and then went back and did the cut out area. The piping does cover the joint to give it a neater presentation. I wish the photo had done the colors justice but it didn't.. good luck with yours.
