I discovered this effect accidentally. I added too much milk to a dark-colored buttercream, and it caused some tiny white spots in the icing. It didn't change the taste at all, and the texture was fine, but it gave an almost shimmery look without using luster dust or edible glitter. I did it intentionally for this cake.
