how did you do the face. it looks great
kjb 9/28/05 at 6:42am
Thanks! I made the face by laying out a round ball of fondant 2 half moons for the cheaks, a snake shape for the chin and forhead, than I rolled out a thin piece to cover it, made round white balls and flattened then for eyes and a cresent shape for mouth, I did have to use a little water to get the eyes and mouth to stay on...not sure if that was what I should have done...but it worked! I let it harden for 2 days before I used it

where did you buy the 3d cake pan?
kjb 1/3/06 at 8:36am
Sorry this wasn't a 3-d pan...I used a 9 x 13 cake and cut in half length wise for the base of the train, then use striped shortbread cookies cut in half for the little wheel well and a stack of striped cookies with icing between each one for the rounded center section. The area with the #1 are actually strawberry waffer cookies. The cab part of thomas is the rest of the 9 x13 scraps . I hope this helps!

I have a huge Thomas fan at home and want to try to make this cake for her birthday. Where did you find the fondant? Did you have to color it yourself? If so, how did you do it?
kjb 6/5/07 at 5:51pm
this was my first time using fondant and I purchasedthe Wilton white pre-made fondant at the local craft store...ACMoore I think. No one ate anything out of it because it had a really yucky taste...I made the face by taking a little handful of fondant and putting a tiny bit of black (Wilton black paste-also from the craft store) food coloring and mixing it ( you work it like bread dough).

sorry, the ballons were made the same way except I only worked in the color a little to get the marble effect instead of working it in completely like I did with the face. oh, I made the eyes and eyebrows using a little fondant and a mixing a little black paste in at a time until it looked right...good luck with your Thomas!!!
