Cake Chest
I made this for my husband's birthday. Chocolate cake (3 layers) for the bottom, 1 layer for the lid. Covered in MMF. Crest is FBCT. MMF is painted in brown b/c it looked too plain in white. Filled with Hershey kisses to hide the dowels. First 3D box cake, so I wasn't really sure what I was doing.

how do you keep the top of the trunk open
I put the cake layer on a cake board (cut to fit). The lid is propped up with two straws inserted into the main part of the cake (hidden behind the Kisses). The back of the lid sat on the back of the cake (where a hinge would be). Since it was MMF, the weight of the lid was enough to keep the back of the lid in place. I use the instructions posted on CC somewhere. (I think it's listed under Tiffany box or gift box.)
