Thank you, the lid is seperate. Base is 8" double layer, each about 2.5 " high so that it has a nice height, top about 1". Hardest part was getting corners straight and lining up ribbons. I placed my ribbons on the cake bottom before lid went on. I made several more to look like Christmas presents later & learned to make ribbons at the same time to match sizes& where they would be located 1st. Live and learn. Hope this helps you from making my mistakes.
