Frog Pond

Frog Pond on Cake Central

This design inspired by all of the wonderful froggy cakes here on CC...thank you for sharing your art! This is Toba's carrot cake (modified a bit) with cream cheese frosting, Sugarshack's bc on the outside for smoothness, fondant frogs, cattails, lilies, and a gumpaste bow.

 Oops! I hit the wrong button and the new site changes won't allow me to edit it. Those frogs are so adorable and perfect. It makes me want to go attempt to make one. I love the cake overall. The lilypad suggestion is neat. Other than the previous critiques the waves would look good in the same blue that's in the bow. My first thought was to do the border in grass but then I realized you were going for a wave/water effect. Great Job!

critique subgroup member: Your frogs are the cutest, and their expressions are precious. Your bottom borders need a little work to even them up make sure they are consistent and that they reach to the bottom of the cake. They float a little high in some areas. Cake is beautifully smooth! overall very cute idea!

critique subgroup member: welcome to the group! this cake is adorable! I love the light colors you chose and your fondant and gumpaste work are wonderful. I love the fact that you incorporated the writing onto a sign rather than on the cake itself, and the little fish were a cute touch. It looks like the top tier is leaning a bit or is uneven. It may not be the cake itself but maybe more bc on one side than the other and a little work on the border would give a perfect finish :)

critique subgroup member: the design is fantastic, I picked up on the lean too, but thats because I always have that same problem with my cakes. Your colors are wonderful and the frogs and cattails are marvelous

Critique Group Member: Welcome to the group! Your design is fantastic. Very playful and creative - so nice to see versus the standard baby shower cake! Yes - your colors work really well together (I would have never come up with that scheme). Modeling is terrific. Agree you could clean up the borders and ferns a little.

Critique group member: Your frogs are just adorable! Overall cake presentation is very nice, very cute cake! There appears to be some uneveness in the top layer. I see a few inconsistancies in your border. Very nice overall.

Critique group member: Cute! I love the frogs and cattials! Critique wise the icing looks a litte rough, I the "wave" border looks uneven. Also although the bow is very well done, I don't think it fits with the theme of this cake, It just seems odd going from frogs, fish and cattails to all of a sudden a bow.

Critique subgroup member: You have fantastic modeling skills. Your frogs are adorable. The overall design of the cake is wonderful. To keep the lean out of your pictures, trying photographing it from the top at a angle. I think the bow is out of place for a "water" theme. A huge water lily would be more appropriate. The borders and seaweed to match the quality of your modeling. But I really do like the cake and your icing and corners are really well done also.

Since I am one of the last to comment, I apologize for my redundancy by repeating again, that your frogs are just absolutely adorable and so well done. You have great modeling skills and if you are just beginning and creating these wonderful works of art, I can only imagine that you will be creating masterpieces!!! Maybe I would have added a few more fishies and the top could have been a bit straighter but overall, this cake is precious! I wish I had an occasion to make this same cake for!

Critique subgroup member: I really like this. The frogs are just adorable. What everyone else said about the top tier, other than that, the lilly pads on the cake board, maybe having the "knotch" of the lilly pad showing so it looks more like a lilly pad. If you already have that and I can't see it in the photo, then ignore that.

critique subgroup member: Welcome! What a cute cake. Your sculpting, as everyone has noticed, is fantastic! The bc is a little rough...that stuff can be brutal. I think the cream colored sides would have looked great in an aqua blue....more representative of water. Then maybe the borders could be white...like waves. Overall, it's just a sweet, well done cake!

Thanks for the critique! Yes, I had a lily pad in mind until the client insisted on a bow 8O I MUST take some time to practice, maybe even take a course, on basic piping. My top tier icing was lopsided (the cake was trimmed with an engineer's square). Thank you!!

critique subgroup member: this cake is adorable and i agree, the froggies are just the cutest! i think i'd like to see a few more fishies and the writing on the sign to be a bit bigger. i wasn't sure what you were going for here (that it was a shower cake) until i saw that it was in the baby shower category. you don't need anyone else to tell you about the angled top and i think too, that maybe the bow is a little out of place. and something happened to your 'waves' on the bottom tier in the corner.
