My First Cake

My First Cake on Cake Central

I'm in the Wilton Course 1 class right now and before we make our final cake next week I thought I'd make one at home. I'm not to excited with how it turned out but I know I'll get better with practice. I couldn't seem to get the icing smooth. :) If anyone has any comments or suggestions please feel free...Thanks for stopping by!!!!

I just learned a great little trick for smoothing the icing. After you've spread it on the cake, let it sit for a few minutes until it starts to crust. Then take a Viva paper towel (brand is important) and lay it over the cake. Lightly glide your hand on the paper towel so the heat from your hand softens the frosting and smooths it. Move the paper towel and repeat as needed. This works beautifully on the sides, too. Even my 16 ds had a perfectly smooth cake when he tried this for the first time!
