I think the cracks look like the little veins that are visible just beneath the surface of the skin. If you hadn't said something I would have thought you painted them on. This is so real looking it's almost scary!! What did you use for the hair? You did an amazing job on this little guy - WOW!!! 8O

The "hair" is mohair yarn. I just snip 1/4" bits of the yarn rope and then spread them out and stick it on the head. A thin coat of piping gel gets it to stick. :D
