Thanksgivng Cake

Thanksgivng Cake on Cake Central

I made this cake to take to our family Thanksgiving get together. It was a 2 layer, 6 x2 inch round cake. Lemon cake with buttercream icing. Pumpkins were mello-creme candies. Grass border with yellow star flowers. Really quick and easy to make!

I think the cake is great! Love the grass and the flowers....I think you need a new camera! :D

Great looking cake, nice design. a bit fuzzie to see but I can still make out what you describe. I agree it would have made a bigger impact if you had made the pumpkins and made them larger in size as well. FWIW I would have put several pumpkins together within a vine and tendrils. But nice nonthe less

Really pretty and love the grass falling over the sides. Maybe it could be enhanced with either a design on the side or make the cake lower - it seems a bit tall and thin (but maybe that's the look you were going for (?)). The picture is a bit fuzzy but I think you have yellow flowers on it (?) - maybe with the green / orange combo you could have gone with a less bright flower.

Great idea-love the grass tip! Green and orange are a nice compliment. Next time push yourself and try molding your pumpkins w/marzipan/gumpaste/fondant etc. Very easy!!! Is your cake a little uneven? I have a tiny level for my kitchen. Then I squish it till even. :D

Critique Group Member: Cute cake. For me, I like the grass border around the bottom but would have chosen something different for the top border. If you don't have a bench scraper, invest in one. They're cheap and make a great tool for smoothing the sides of cakes.

Critique group member: Cute design! Work on getting the buttercream smooth and also I would recommend putting some sort of design on the side of the cake because it seems bare.
