Hexagon Lamp Design

Hexagon Lamp Design on Cake Central

I got the idea for this cake from a lampshade. I made the cake for my sisters for their birthdays. They're a week apart, and were having the party on the same day. So, I just sent it back with my mom when she came down to visit. My family loves being my guinea pig. It was mostly to practice the design (which still needs a lot of work), and to test the crème brulèe coffee creamer for flavoring. Next time I will use fondant. My oldest sister doesn't like fondant, so I just used buttercream.

Yeah, my hexagons need work. I'm not good with the free-hand stuff, and the buttercream wasn't crusted yet. I was limited in time, sadly.

You freehanded that???? WOW! I think you did a fantastic job! Next time, if not fondant, I bet a chocolate wrap would work.

Sorry, I meant the hexagons. I tried pressing the pattern in (made my own impression mat), but most of the lines didn't show up, so I had to do it free-hand where it didn't show, and almost all the gold pieces were free-hand, which is why some aren't perfect. The paint ran a bit, or I pushed too hard, etc.

Thanks, Barbydoll.. The crème brulèe turned out very well. Everyone loved it, even my oldest sister, who doens't like much of anything. I think she fears change.. hehe

I wanted to put a fondant loop bow on top. Do the inside black and outside gold, but I didn't have time, so I just covered the top too. :)
