Ace Of Cakes Totally Awesome Cake Challenge/scarecrow

Ace Of Cakes Totally Awesome Cake Challenge/scarecrow on Cake Central

This was my entry into the Ace of Cakes Totally Awesome Cake Challenge in Rockford, IL. The event was judged solely by Duff himself, and I was lucky enough to receive 3rd place (honorable mention) for my scarecrow. I had the opportunity to meet several other cc members and see their amazing entries as well. I plan to put some additional photos and a video clip on my website later this week, so please come and take a peak! The scarecrow is a cake dummy that I carved and covered in fondant.

Thanks a lot! The other winners had moving parts/motors. One you made noises and had small flames that lit up. How can you compete with that? LOL!

:o 8O :o 8O :o 8O I know that I shouldn't be this surprised because everything you make is fabulous, but OMG!!! The details are soooo perfect. I mean, look at the ridges on the pants. Looks just like real corduroy (sp?)!!! Congratulations on placing!!!

Amazing work ! You say the scarecrow is a cake dummy, is the wooden barrel planter also or is that cake? I think every detail is amazing, love the stitching on the shoes too :)

I can't stop looking at all of the details! You need to keep him on your dining room table thru the fall! Just amazing!

It is all a styrofoam dummy. Just for competition purposes. I was able to take my time making it and I also had to transport the cake 5 hours, so I went the dummy route. It was my first time doing a dummy and it was a lot more challenging than I thought to get the fondant to stick on the dummy.

I've never even heard of this - when is it airing? I love the cake - it's absolutley adorable! He looks like a stuffed animal and not a cake! I just want to pick him up and hug him! LOL! I also love the detailed colors of the leaves - it's just amazing.

Thanks! It wasnt televised. It didnt have anything to do with the food network or the Ace of Cakes show. It was a contest put on by a museum in IL to raise money.
