In album: flag
These are for a woman who has just moved to Toronto from Japan. Her friend ordered them for her birthday, she misses her country dearly.

The shapes are Cherry Blossom branches, kimono, fans, Japanese flags and the words "Friendship" and "Good Fortune" in Japanese. (That was the hardest part! It's SO hard to write in a language you don't know.) I hope she can at least read them!

Forgot to mention the flavour of the Japanese word cookies is a Green Tea Sugar Cookie! The others are Gingerbread.

Amazing as usual!!!! What did you use to write with on the cookies that said "friendship and good fortune"?
antonia74 9/19/05 at 8:40pm
I used black royal icing (made with Americolor dye!) and thinned it out to about the consistency of maple syrup. It was easier to "write" with using a fine paintbrush.

Wow Antonia your cookies just keep getting better and better all the time.. These are spectacular. I am sure the lady will be thrilled with them.. That green tea cookie sounds interesting. What a different flavour. I love the gold on the kimonos they look so real.

These are AMAZING! Where are the sushi cookies though!!
antonia74 9/20/05 at 9:32am
Awwwww.......sushi cookies would have been great! What a clever idea, wish I'd thought of that! (I was going to do some Hello Kitty heads, but I wasn't sure if that was actually a Chinese or a Japanese creation, so we canned that design!)

Antonia, hi, I am new here. What gorgeous, imaginative cookies! Did you pipe and flow or just smear the base coat on? is it a Royal Icing?
antonia74 10/4/05 at 10:32am
I piped the base coat on. It is royal...I posted the recipe called "Royal Icing for Decorated Cookies" in the recipes section.

Awesome!! How did you get the shape of the kimonos? Is it a cutter?
cakeatopia 2/28/07 at 5:49pm
