Fair Entry -Snowflake Cake
This was a dummy cake covered in MMF. I did a horrible job smoothing the fondant around the bottom, just couldn't get it to work!!!!! So I covered as much of the mistakes with the ribbon. Snowflakes were piped on with royal icing and then painted with luster dust mixed with vodka. Those darn snowflakes were trouble too - I must have broken 20 of them to get the few I did on top. I won a blue ribbon for the category, but I really was disappointed with how it turned out.
I think it's beautiful!
Thank you so much! It was a frustrating cake for not being a real one.
Beautiful! The show flakes look very delicate!
why luster dust and vodka? what does the vodka do? gorgeous cake!
The vodka is just a liquid that you mix the laster dust in to help it adhere to the royal icing pieces, the alcohol evaorates quickly so it doesn't ruin the royal icing work. Hope that helps.
