1 cup softened butter, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 2 1/4 cups flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and black royal icing for writting. Preheat oven 350 and grease cookie sheets. (i lined them with parchment paper) Beat butter & vanilla until fluffy. add sugar beat medium until blended. Combine flour & salt in bowl and gradually add to butter mixture. Divide dough into 10 equal sections. Reserve 1 section; cover & refrigerate remaining 9 sections...........
....color the reservered section the color you want . Cut it in 2 equal parts roll each section into 5-inch log. Pinch one end to resemble a crayon tip. Place cookies 2 inches apart on cookie sheet and repeat the same with the other sections that are in the fridge 1 at a time. bake 15 to 18 minutesor until lightly brown around the edges. Cool on rack then decorate with royal icing.

This is a new recipe for me so i'm not sure what they taste like. I found it in my cookie book. quick and simple
