My husband actually does my computer work for me, Iam not tooo computer savy. These were scanned off the napkin, he enlarged them to the size i need for the cake, I cut them out, put piping gel on the back as glue and attatached.I buy my icing paper from Lucks and I use there edible ink. I like it the best. The images peel off the paper very easily. I bought a Cannon printer at staples for $99.00 that is used only for printing icing images and wafer paper.
I personally use bakerycraft plates, the pillars snap into the plates, then you slide into the cake. You proably wouldn't be able to buy bakerycraft products, so you will need to dowel the bottom layer then set the top layer on top. If you have any wilton yearbook, they show you step by step instructions. Walmart has the newest yearbook you could look at it in the store.
