I'm so happy it snowed last night for this couple! They came up to Toronto from California for their wedding and asked for a wintery-themed Mad Hatter cake using their sage green/grey wedding colours. The toppers are groom cookies that I made in their likenesses with their wedding attire. Had fun with them, but we did all the arrangements by email and I'm so sad I didn't get a chance to meet them in person!

This was SO much easier to do in buttercream! I'll never go back to struggling to cover these tiers in fondant!!

Did the wild colours with Americolor dyes, fondant detailing. Cheshire cat in gumpaste. Pearls in fondant dusted with irridescent powder.

Cake is Pistachio with Passionfruit buttercream, Dark Chocolate with Grand Marnier buttercream & Banana with Coconut buttercream.

I adore this design! Client requested it after seeing a version. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG, I believe the originators were "The Cake Girls" in Chicago??

Anyhoo, mine is done in IMBC buttercream with chocolate brown (looks black!) fondant, Tiffany blue & ivory fondant detailing. Snowflakes are in gumpaste, only half of them were brushed with lustre dust.

Cake's sizes are 6"/8"/10"/12" tiers, each one 5.5" tall. I nixed the silver stand I had brought for the cake....too tall!

Yes, it's outside and pouring rain! It was for an Art exhibit this evening, to serve to guests. They ordered about 6 or 8 wedding cakes, all different styles from different companies. It was fun to see other work close up!

(I hope it's okay to publish this from a magazine photo!? I stupidly forgot to take any of my own before I submitted it!)

A magazine here in Toronto asked me to produce a cake inspired by the art of Andy Warhol last year and this is the cake I created for them. (It has just been published on page 137 of "Weddingbells" for Toronto/Southern Ontario, the Fall/Winter 2006 issue!)

I was inspired by Warhol's daisy lithographs and of course his famous "Campbell's soup can" art, mine is in gumpaste on top.

For a second marriage. This couple was into fairies and fantasy. How fun!

This cake is actually a complete copy of their invitation, which I will post here too. Mushrooms, fairies, flowers are all in gumpaste. Cake in IMBC buttercream.

This bride was fun! I also did Wedding Cake Cookies to match, but forgot to photograph them...doh!

Using the amazing colours of her off-beat wedding, I did irregular fondant stripes and fashioned a "tropical fern"-look for the top tier with a cookie cutter shaped like a sun.

First of all, thank you to BKeith for your article. I had done this cake before, but you gave me the confidence to try again...my angles were sharper and I think it was overall better this time!

I was in love with the retro 1942 topper they gave me for this cake...from their aunt's wedding. SO special!

The cake's flavours were Lime Spongecake with Toasted Coconut Buttercream and the bottom tier was Dark Chocolate with Chocolate Buttercream.

I would have liked to have made the cakes on a more serious angle, but the best man was travelling over an hour away with it in his car...and I didn't trust it to arrive undamaged. He did a good job though, and it was perfect for their wedding!
