I love purple, so I did my course 3 final cake in shades of purple. The tiers are 3", 5", and 7". I did a rush job on the base fondant because I had problems getting motivated after the mad hatter cake incident. Overall, though, I think the cake turned out rather pretty.

I spent 7 hours torting, filling, icing, and decorating this cake...I set it down on a chair to put the finishing touch (a ladybug) on it and take a pic...I turned around to see my daughter (16 months old) picking a flower off of the cake and eating it...I got onto her and as I was doing this my son (also 16 months old) whacked the cake in two with a paper towel tube...Aaagghh! I was devastated at first, but then I realized it will give me an excuse to make another one and that one will be better!

I did these for some kids I know. They are mini loaf cakes that I torted and filled with marshmallow creme and gummy worms (hehe). I thought it would be a good opportunity to practice basketweaving. Boy, let me tell you, I thought basketweaving was easy until I tried to do it around corners on a tiny cake. That takes some practice!

I made this cake during course 2. The roses are green because it was intended for St. Patrick's Day. The bottom border is my first attempt at doing the Hawaiian Lei Border from the old Wilton books. I don't have a multi coupler, so I went around the cake three times with a leaf tip.

I thought this would be a fun cake to do to practice stars...I didn't like the way the stars looked so I started playing with the tip and icing consistency and ended up with an ewok instead of a bear...

I learned two important lesson doing this cake. First, if the sides of your cake aren't at 90 degree angles, icing will slowly slide off of your cake, making it difficult to ice. Second, there is such a thing as having your icing too thin...hahaha....

This is a cake I did during course 1 to practice the piping gel transfer technique. One important lesson I learned was that you should always outline first, and then fill in.

This is a cake I did during course 1 for a neighbor. I've improved since then, but thought I'd post it anyway.

This was my course 3 cake for the second session. It was my first attempt at fondant (used MMF). I was pretty pleased with the results, being a newbie and all.
