A replica of our nieces favourite pair of shoes, including her purple laces which she loves. I replaced the 'Chuck Taylor' words on the logo with 'Rosie Pie', her nickname.

This is made up of three 12x6" chocolate mud-cakes sandwiched together with raspberry jam like Frankenstein's foot. Covered in ganache, then white chocolate fondant.

My dear friends daughter turned three, and requested either a doll, a monster, or a yellow truck. I've never done a girly cake and always wanted a doll cake myself as a child, so it was no contest! I found this design in Artisan Cakes flickr photostream and thought it was adorable. It took 176 petals! They were made out of a modelling chocolate/fondant mix, which was quite fiddly to work with as it was soft and hard to get the ruffle on each petal. I had thought it would be easy as I've done it before for roses, but had forgotten that I was using gumpaste for the roses, which would obviously be a bit gross to eat on a little girls cake.

For my son to take to his creche on his third birthday. Lemon sour cream cake filled with raspberry buttercream.

Has anyone else made this cake following Debbie Brown's instructions? There were a few mistakes, the biggest being that she says to bake two 2" tall 8" square cakes, cut them in half and stack. That's four pieces, right? But the instructions after that were for five pieces. By the time I realised it was too late, so I just had to make it up as I went along rather than following her measurements.

For my son's third birthday party.

I made food to represent everything the hungry caterpillar ate (he ate all sorts of fruit, iceream, pickles, cheese, cupcakes, cherry pie, salami... etc!!). Some of the foods (like watermelon) were not available at this time of year, so I substituted them with goodies like the watermelon jelly pictured, mini plum cheesecakes, things like that.

Unfortunately my camera died before I could get any more photos, so the only photo I have of the finished party table was taken with a cellphone. The tattoo's I made with temporary tattoo paper, I loved those :) I was lucky enough that my lovely friend Doris did loads of graphics for me. She did signs for all the food (like on the watermelon and bottles), the tattoo layout, the caterpillar in circles etc. This was my first themed party, I was grateful for all your input Doris!

For my son's 2nd birthday, to take to his creche. As soon as I saw this design (from The Whimsical Bakehouse) I loved it. The animals are all made of piped chocolate. The cake is covered in buttercream. I made forty animals, so every child at creche could have one each... took ages! But I loved doing it, and chocolate is so much fun to work with.

My cousins twin boys are turning six today, one likes Superman, one likes Spiderman. My first attempt at a royal icing transfer. I had intended to put buildings on the side and some webbing, but all did not go to plan time wise.

For our niece's 12th birthday. Her nickname is Rosie-Pie, which is why the queen bee is holding a rose and has a pie :o)

This cake included a lot of first times for me, almost everything I did I had never done before. Torting the cakes, filling them, carving them a little bit, stacking them, fondant over an odd shape.... so many things!

Thank you Doris for all our input :o)

This cake was baked by a friend for his daughters first birthday, then we decorated it together. My friends are one part Canadian, one part New Zealander. So on one side of the cake is the kiwi side represented, the other is the Canadian side.

This was attempt #2 at cake decorating, made about a week after my number one cake (which I learnt a LOT from). This one was for my son to take to creche for morning tea. The cake was pretty big, so I ended up buying a roasting dish to bake it in. The only problem was the edges cooked a lot faster than the middle. I've been advised to try putting a 'flower nail' in next time to try and help. I froze it before cutting it, which helped reduce the crumbs. Then did a crumb coating of buttercream, before the final coating. Black royal icing for the lines/eyes/mouth/nose, fruit roll-up for the mane/tail, and licorice for the horns. The brown triangles are chocolate which I melted into a square, then cut up before it was 100% set. Same with the eyes. The kids at creche loved it, and I was stoked with it!

So this was the cake that got me started on this addiction! I know it's not a great example, but I wanted to post my cakes in the order of my learning journey.

I made one big cake, cut it into two long pieces, then cut up one of the pieces to make the top and bottom of the number. Iced it in buttercream, then fondant, and piped the lines on with a tip that was WAY too big. The letters and numbers were fondant cut out with play-dough cutters. It was actually supposed to look like toy blocks, but kind of ended up looking like a hopscotch playground!

I was so pleased with myself, and couldn't wait to try another one!

Where is the search feature for the galleries now? Before we could put the theme and then all the relevant cakes appear.
indianacakesbylisa 11/1/12 at 3:04pm
I would also love to find out about this feature!!!!!!!!! :-)
Sweet_Cake 11/1/12 at 4:04pm
I used the search on the top right of the page. Then the page give you some options like All/Product/Gallery Image. Select the one that you want and that's it!! =)
Yeloroz65 11/2/12 at 7:33am
That search option doesn't appear to allow you to search within a search like before. I'm trying to search in Children's Birthday cakes, but only for girls. Yesterday I tried searching for a girl's b-day cake several ways, and one of the searches brought up several adult/naughty theme cake. I think I just searched girl birthday cake. That search also brought up wedding cakes, and some random halloween cakes. Before you could do a general search, then there was an option to search within the results to narrow it down more. Does anyone know if that feature still exists?
