I only had a day to work on this cake, so I kept it pretty simple. But the birthday girl totally lit up when she saw it! The cake is frosted in buttercream with fondant accents. I also added some luster dust to make it sparkle. The crown on top is a toy that belongs to the friend this cake was for.

This cake is based on the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?" which is illustrated by Eric Carle. I was a bit intimidated when my friend requested this style, but I was happy with how it turned out!

Birthday girl wanted rainbow cupcakes. To make the multi-colored swirl on top of the cupcakes, I filled three different icing bags with their own color, then put all three bags into another bag. Worked like a charm!

I found the idea for this cake from a bakery called Concord Teacakes. The birthday girl saw their cake, and wanted me to change the dome to the color of water (it was originally a gray rock), and she wanted an aqua tail. I was worried that the tail would blend into the water, but I think it turned out alright. I think the distinction looked better in real life. Also, the mom wanted the mermaid to have a one piece swimming suit on instead of a bikini.

I've made a few doll cakes and wanted to try adding a "scene". Overall, I was happy with how it turned out, and now I know how to make it better next time! My favorite detail of the entire cake is the white collar on Sleeping Beauty's dress. I just couldn't figure out how to make it look right, and my brilliant husband came up with a template for me to use. The cake is chocolate mud cake with cookies and cream filling, frosted in BC with fondant and gumpaste details (the skirt of the dress is the only place where the BC is visible).

Thanks to CC for inspiration! I found out the design is originally from Coco cupcake cakes, so a big thank you there for the cute idea. I used buttercream frosting with melting wafer details (eyes, hands, etc) and chocolate sprinkles for "fur".

Nothing that hasn't been done before, but it was my first present cake and I loved how it turned out!

Second try at the doll cake. I was pretty proud. My favorite part was the sleeves. To make it look like the red was inset I first iced the shoulder red, then piped the light blue over it with tip 81 and tip 2 (for the "seams"). The cake was chocolate mud cake with cookies and cream filling and cream cheese frosting.

My version of the superhero cake. iced in buttercream with fondant and melting wafer accents. Small details are either royal icing or painted food coloring. TFL!

This was the first time I've done a cake for someone else. I was so excited! The cake is chocolate mud cake with cookies and cream filling. The frosting is cream cheese frosting. I may try a new recipe; I had such a hard time getting this one smooth!! But at least it was delicious... The plaques on the side are made from melting candy wafers. The "candles" are shish kabob sticks I covered in melting chocolate/wafers and stuck in the cake so I could keep the top layer from sliding off (the party was outside and I didn't want my whipped cream melting and sliding around!).

Where is the search feature for the galleries now? Before we could put the theme and then all the relevant cakes appear.
indianacakesbylisa 11/1/12 at 3:04pm
I would also love to find out about this feature!!!!!!!!! :-)
Sweet_Cake 11/1/12 at 4:04pm
I used the search on the top right of the page. Then the page give you some options like All/Product/Gallery Image. Select the one that you want and that's it!! =)
Yeloroz65 11/2/12 at 7:33am
That search option doesn't appear to allow you to search within a search like before. I'm trying to search in Children's Birthday cakes, but only for girls. Yesterday I tried searching for a girl's b-day cake several ways, and one of the searches brought up several adult/naughty theme cake. I think I just searched girl birthday cake. That search also brought up wedding cakes, and some random halloween cakes. Before you could do a general search, then there was an option to search within the results to narrow it down more. Does anyone know if that feature still exists?
