This was for a friend who had pony rides at her son's birthday party. I was inspired by so many cakes here, especially cake/figurine pictures uploaded by LisaMS and Eliane. Cream cheese icing. Figures are MMF.

I was planning to make a whole backyard scene with Backyardigans characters and houses for my daughter's birthday cake. I spent way too much time making the fondant characters that I didn't have time for anything else, which is why the rest of the cake is so plain. My daughter didn't notice and everyone loved the characters. I still can't bring myself to throw the characters away! The characters are made of MMF with some Tylose, cake is covered with cream cheese icing.

I was on vacation visiting family and had only brought some extra fondant with me. My niece's birthday was coming up and she loves Lego Star Wars so I attempted to make some character faces using whatever I could find around my brother's apartment (pens, knives, chopsticks, etc). Since I wasn't able to make a crusting frosting, I just made a white fondant plaque to put the faces on. The kids fought over the pieces and my niece loved it.

My friend had trouble finding a Polly cake for her daughter's 4th birthday so I volunteered. I spent hours practicing with buttercream AND chocolate transfer but just couldn't get the hang of it so I made a fondant plaque of Polly's head. I also put fondant flowers and balls around the sides. I LOVED the bright colors so I even made the filling orange and green (3 layers). Butter cake, cream cheese frosting.

Buttercream icing, fondant face. Crayons are fondant-covered chocolate melts. I used straws to mold the chocolate - Jacques Torres would have been proud! Besides being kinda shiny, I was happy with 'ole Elmo.

This was for my daughter's 3rd birthday. I was pretty stressed about planning the party so I wanted a way to work on the decorations for the cake several days in advance. So I made SS's face out of fondant on wax paper then placed it on the cake once I actually baked and frosted it. Of course it cracked, but I repaired it the best I could. The small details and hair are done with royal icing. By the time I did the writing I was SO over it!

This was my first character cake and it was for my friend's daughter. Took me forever but I was happy with the results.

This was my first fondant-covered cake for my daughter's first birthday (and her cousin's 3rd birthday). I made the fondant from a gelatin-based recipe and it was a horrible experience. I literally stayed up all night working on it and vowed never to work with fondant again (didn't last long). An amusing memory is of my calorie-conscious sister eating a bunch of the fondant butterflies - I couldn't understand why she liked them so much.

Since I don't have pictures of my Wilton I course cakes, this will count as my first cake. My sister got the idea from a magazine (not cake decorating). It was for my niece's 1st birthday.

Where is the search feature for the galleries now? Before we could put the theme and then all the relevant cakes appear.

I would also love to find out about this feature!!!!!!!!! :-)

I used the search on the top right of the page. Then the page give you some options like All/Product/Gallery Image. Select the one that you want and that's it!! =)
Yeloroz65 11/2/12 at 7:33am
That search option doesn't appear to allow you to search within a search like before. I'm trying to search in Children's Birthday cakes, but only for girls. Yesterday I tried searching for a girl's b-day cake several ways, and one of the searches brought up several adult/naughty theme cake. I think I just searched girl birthday cake. That search also brought up wedding cakes, and some random halloween cakes. Before you could do a general search, then there was an option to search within the results to narrow it down more. Does anyone know if that feature still exists?
