This was a cake for my mom's birthday. She loves southwestern culture and decor, so I used a small round cake beneath 2 oval cakes to shape the pottery piece. I sculpted the cacti and cattle skull out of fondant and painted the horns and sign with brown coloring. A skull may be creepy on a cake for mom, but it had to be there!

I made this instead of one of the cakes recommended for the final Wilton Fondant and Gumpaste class--way more fun!

the large 3 d boot was my first try..
I took my daughters boot and set it on the counter
I took my oval cake and started carving
I used the standard method for building a cake... the dowels and hard plates stacked until it looked like it was tall enough then carved more and iced with all butter buttercream, decorated with with the edible pearls ect.
the ben and whitney is just a wilton cake pan.
I am sorry I do not have a tutorial.. I was nervous about transport and decided to freeze it overnight and it was thawed by the time we cut it!
