GRPD Citizen Police Academy graduation cake - police cruiser car cake Cake Central Gallery

This is a cake I made for the Grand Rapids Police Department's Citizen Police Academy graduation (I was in the class). The cake is frosted with buttercream and patted down with Viva towels for a more fondant-like look. I airbrushed the windows (my 1st attempt with my new airbrush). The headlight and taillight housings are made of Lego bricks and sparkle gel. The side mirrors, spotlight, and tires are made of 50/50 gumpaste/fondant mix, and the tires have edible silver beads on them for lug nuts. The car was wired with electronics for light bar, siren, headlights, and tail lights. I mounted the cake on an MDF board with a large hole drilled up the center where I used a support pillar tube as conduit and then I ran the headlights through holes just below them so that they only came straight up through the bottom at their placement point. This ensured wires wouldn't be cut in any cake cutting. The light bar is from a hobby RC car website hobbypartz.com The siren, head and tail lights are from a model train website modeltrainsoftware.com Video of lights and siren in action can be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnMUjoYRKLU&feature=share&list=UUVMou_Am5vJS1PXHjGVA4rQ
