This was a 5 layer vanilla cake with buttercream filling.  The inside is constructed to look like the American flag.  The outside is decorated with buttercream rosettes.

I made this cake to practice my fondant work.  It's only the 4th cake I've done with fondant.  It's my best work with it so far.  And it was good practice for me.  The cake itself if 2-layers of french vanilla dyed blue and red.  It is filled with buttercream, so the inside is red, white, and blue as well.  The swirls of fondant in around the star are to represent fireworks.
