I just cut a circle of fondant bigger than the cupcake and smooth it down over the wrapper so the top effectively cuts the excess fondant off!

This might be a dumb questions but how do you cover the cupcakes so neatly with fondant it almost looks like the cupcake wrapper was put on after.
