A few firsts on this cake. Not all of them successful. I tried marbling fondant, my first figure, and I tried a topsy/turvy cake. Humidity caused a lot of problems, so I had to improvise quite a bit. But, my friend, who had requested the cake for her son absolutely loved it. The idea was to have her son, who is a goalie sitting on a glacier. He's a great fan of the LA Kings, thus the crown. I couldn't fit the goalies net on the top so had to put it on the side. Then, of course, a glacier needs a polar bear, my first animal figure. And, of course, the Canadian maple leaf as we're from the Great White North! Her son, who is 19, was very surprised and absolutely loved the cake as well. I learned a lot from this cake, and was pleased they enjoyed it. The cake was a decadent chocolate, chocolate chip with vanilla buttercream.
