The design of this cake was inspired by the adorable robot toppers (purchased on-line) The gears are made of gumpaste, cut by a set of custom cutters that I had made.
Each tier was inspired by the gorgeous metallic colors in the topper; the copper took about 5 layers of airbrushing different colours to achieve the perfect shade. The leather/bronze tier started black, then airbrushed several metallics & browns & reds, then dabbed with a sponge and paper towel to give it a different finish. The bottom tier was colored black, then silver airbrush color was brushed on with a wide silicone pastry brush to get the texture... the base board is imprinted with a gear pattern made with the cutters.
