Joseph and Mary are flat against the cake. It would have been waaaaaaaaaaay easier to make regular 3D figurines, but I was set on making them like a relief panel. It was tricker than I thought!

The face and the arms were the only things that were 3D. Everything else was glued straight to the cake.

The star was made using my craft gun extruder and making 45 degree cuts. I then pasted together, added a little heart and star, and painted with Pearl lustre dust and disco dust. The trim around the coat is also with the extruder. Bethlehem was hand cut and I used cupcake sprinkles for the "lights.

The feather details are all using the dresden tool. I reshaped cheap oval cutters set for my three feather shapes. Overall, the effect was beautiful - especially with a few silver painted accents and lots of disco dust! LOVE IT! xoxo

This little Angel stands 15" high on a 16" board. The best part for me, are the wings. I love those happy moments in cake when you're not quite sure what you're doing, but it comes together in the end! I'm revisiting those wings again for my next cake!!!

Her coat represents the night sky and she is holding the Star of Bethlehem above the Nativity scene. The only cutters I used are the stars and modified ovals for the feathers. Everything else is using extruder gun, dresden tool and free hand.

I didn't get to finish it, it was too rushed for what I pictured in my head. She was originally meant to be looking down, so that's how I worked on the face, but Auckland humidity has not on my side! Long story short, she was readjusted to look straight ahead. All the jiggling and wiggling around made me crush the gumpaste and I ruined her jaw/chin in the process and there wasn't any time to remake...boohoo!

She stands 15" high on a 16" board. Merry Christmas everyone - have a delightful and happy day filled with good health, good friends, family and plenty of cakes! ;) Nina xoxo

You know you are cake obsessed when everything you look at has potential to become a cake. I've been wanting to recreate this gorgeous cookie jar, and when Royal Bakery's Santa tutorial came up, I knew -using a few of her cute ideas - how this sweet little Santa was going to come together. Thank you Lesley! 12.5" / 31cm tall, resting on a 16" cake board. Video and "behind the scenes" at www.makeprettycakes.com/behind-the-scenes . Hope you enjoy! Nina xoxo
