Yes, the beer can is real. I used a wood dowel, cut a notch in it so the lip of the can would stick in it, just to hold it better. Then all I did...

Suspended beer can cake

Got inspired by siris to try this one. Cherry chip cake and WBH bc. Dowel is holding the beer can up. Satin Ice covered, fondant banner. I love how it turned out...although it could have looked more realistic with blown sugar, I only know bc;-)...
