Obviously winter sports run in the family because the mum was away ski-ing when I delivered the cake to her lovely son at work. She arrived back for the day of his birthday tho!!! He was thrilled with the cake.

This was inspired by a photo of my brother, sat chilling on a mountain, as snowboarders do. The clothes are as close to the colour as I could get. He was really chuffed with the cake, it made him smile :)

Birthday cake for a snowboarding 13 year old. Gumpaste snowboarder/sign and buttercream snow and trees (used pretzel rods for trunks). 8 in. WASC cake with chocolate buttercream filling. Used disco dust to make the snow sparkle!

This multi-layer downhill ski slope has tiny gingerbread men (sugar) on skis. The top and bottom gates are candles, as are the big skier's ski poles. Obviously a plastic head, but this is my first attempt at a gumpaste body!

Client's wife had a pair of vintage skis mounted in their home. He wanted me to replicate them in cake. In order to get some scale I made them over 2 feet long. Their skis had no bindings so they look a little plain.

This cake is in Memory of Kevin Kyte. It is swiss chocolate and devils foods with an edible picture, whipped buttercream and fondant accents. This cake was the center piece at his funeral. I know that he would've loved it!
